Statement of Sen. Ralph Recto on the recent violent events in Muslim Mindanao
The doves have prevailed over the hawks.
The President has demonstrated a great amount of grace under pressure in choosing to wage peace instead of turning ‘juramentado’ in the wake of fresh violence in Muslim Mindanao, which resulted to the sorry loss of lives of soldiers and civilians.
The commander-in-chief has spoken and stood his ground. The troops are bound to toe the line and honor the wish of their chief.
Let the commander-in-chief be THE commander-in-chief.
The backseat generals will have to stay in the sidelines for now.
The President should be lauded and supported for his effort to explore all peaceful means while engaging aggressively those criminal elements in the area and bringing them to justice.
And when bringing in wounded soldiers for emergency care, we expect that the President would devote more funds for their medevac (medical evacuation) so that no lives will be lost while in transit.
